What you’ll do.

Rooms dedicated to art forms and traditions: Appalachian arts, Guatemalan family traditions, textiles and weaving, a theater with lights and sound to run, dance, and an indoor-outdoor art studio with staff-led projects that change regularly.

  • Theater with costumes, puppets, and a real lighting and sound board
  • Indoor-outdoor art studio with rotating staff-led projects
  • Guatemala: Family Traditions, with a marimba to play
  • Appalachian arts: fly tying, marbles, bluegrass and folk music

Journey through rooms dedicated to a variety of art forms and techniques.

The rooms

  • Appalachian Arts. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of a traditional ramp festival. Learn about fly tying, marble playing, bluegrass and folk music, including Chattanooga legend Fletcher Bright.
  • Guatemala: Family Traditions. Play the marimba, learn about authentic Guatemalan cuisine, celebrate Día de Todos los Santos (All Saints' Day) and use the bright and patterned fabrics to create a kit that tells a story.
  • Textiles and Weaving. Practice weaving, use fabrics and patterns to mimic quilting, and learn about the history and art of basket making.
  • Theater. Put on a puppet show or use our costumes and props to perform on the big stage! If you would rather be behind the scenes, learn the technical side of theater by controlling lights and sounds.
  • Dance. Learn choreography in a variety of styles from a local dance studio.
  • Indoor-Outdoor Art Studio. Our staff provide the materials and direction for art projects. Activities in the art studio change out on a regular basis, so there is always something new to learn and experience!
